Proposal guide

The Good / Better / Best HVAC proposal, done right

Homeowners don't buy equipment. They choose between futures: the cheap fix, the sensible upgrade, the comfortable-for-fifteen-years option. Good / Better / Best works because it turns a yes-or-no decision into a which-one decision. But the structure only closes when each option is built deliberately.

What each option is for

Good is the credible floor: a properly sized, properly matched system with no padding, priced honestly. It exists so the homeowner trusts the other two. Better is where you expect most sales to land: the efficiency step, the comfort accessory that solves their stated complaint, the longer warranty. Best is the aspiration: variable-speed comfort, air quality, zoning where it fits. Roughly a fifth of buyers take the top option when it is presented without apology, and its presence makes Better feel reasonable.

The anatomy of a closable option

  • A complete, AHRI-matched system, never a bare condenser price
  • The comfort outcome in homeowner language, not a SKU list
  • Warranty terms stated per option, because they differ
  • The monthly payment beside the cash price on every option
  • One accessory that answers the homeowner's actual complaint
  • A visible install scope so nothing feels hidden

Price spreads that work

If Better is priced too close to Good, you gave away margin; too far, and it reads as a different product. A workable pattern is a meaningful but reachable step from Good to Better, and a larger, aspiration-priced step to Best. Present all three at once, anchored from the top: when a homeowner sees Best first, Better looks like a smart compromise instead of an upsell.

The mistakes that stall proposals

  • Options that differ only by SEER number (homeowners cannot feel a SEER)
  • Leaving financing for 'if they ask' instead of printing the payment
  • Proposals that arrive days after the visit, once urgency has cooled
  • No signature path in the document, so the close needs another meeting
  • Rebuilding options by hand for every job, so reps stop offering three

The teams that win with Good / Better / Best are the ones for whom building three real options costs nothing extra. When the system builder validates matchups, financing math updates live, and the homeowner can sign in the same flow, three options become the default instead of the special effort.

Build Good / Better / Best proposals in about twelve minutes.

AirMatch turns managed brand equipment and AHRI-validated matchups into homeowner-ready options with financing, e-signature, and deposit collection built in.
